SENIOR CAPSTONE
EVOLUTION OF THE HUNDRED YEAR STORM

IMG_9216_edited.png

As a final assignment in my BFA program I had to complete a senior capstone design research project. As a whole my cohort was tasked with finding a topic that fell under the umbrella of climate change to focus on the entirety of the semester. I decided to focus on hurricanes and how these storms have evolved over the years due to the impacts of climate change.

For the design aspects of the project I chose to create 3 different foldable poster/ stat sheets. I chose to do 3 in order to present past, present, and future storm statistics, imagery, and projections to fully show an evolution of the storms strengths.

Pictured above is the final gallery setup for our class exhibition at the conclusion of the class.

Enlarged prints of the final foldables ran alongside shelves which held hand folded foldables for guests to take along with my design process booklet which contained research data, design exploration, iterations, and more from throughout the semester.

Each foldable was created using the same grid system and color styles. each intended to be folded into a twist-fold pamphlet. The front side for the unfolded posters include statistics and metrics from the specific storm with the back side serving as a photo poster of the damage caused from each storm. When folded both the back and front sides connect together, making use of the shattered debris motif to create a cohesive design even when folded.

In addition to our final outcomes, we were tasked with creating a process book publication to document our research, exploration, inspiration and final outcomes.
