TIME + SPACE DATA VISUALIZATION

Project 2poster Cameron Pearce.png

As a class, we were tasked with creating a data vis. composition drawing inspiration from a recent news/sports story, using the data to show a correlation in time and space. I chose to focus on the 2021 World Series season for the Atlanta Braves. Doing so, I tracked their win-loss record across each city they played in, overall record against each team, and how the record changed as the season went on.

For design inspiration, I looked at Nicholas Felton's yearly reports and the ability to clearly display so much information into single artboards. I chose to give the U.S. map a stylized, prism-like look in order to keep the visual simple while giving it continuity alongside the angled lines of the graph below.

In addition to the poster composition, we were also tasked with creating an animation to accompany our visualization. Using the same main graphs, I chose to follow the 2021 schedule across the country from April to October. Highlighting each game along the way, with color corresponding to wins or losses, and dot size representing streaks in each particular city.
